About Agrahar


Agrahara is a village in the Hassan district of Karnataka. It is said that Brahmin families migrated from the Tirunelveli district of neighbouring Tamil Nadu and settled in various districts of the present-day Karnataka. One of those districts included Hassan. One such family settled in Agrahara and were later joined by other families. The inhabitants of the village are still noted for their hospitality. Betel plants and coconut trees are found in abundant quantities here.

Places to Stay
The best place to stay is Hassan at a distance of 30 km. Budget hotels are available in Hassan. However, here are a few which you can try – Ashrita Hotel (Tariff – Rs. 700), Gee Dee Comforts (Tariff – Rs.600), Hotel Kadamba Comforts (Tariff – Rs. 400) and Suvarna Regency (Tariff – Rs. 950).

The official language of Agrahara is Kannada. English is also widely understood.

The important festivals of the region are Diwali, Vihsu and Ganesh Chathurthi.

Places of Interest
The village in itself may not have places of tourist attraction. However, Hassan has a few temples which are worth a visit - Halebidu Hoysaleswara Temple (31 km away from Hassan) and the lord Gomateshwara Temple at Shravanabelagola (53 km from Hassan).
