Located in the southernmost tip of the Kathiwar peninsula in Gujarat, Ankolvadi is a small village. It is not very far away from the coast and is only 40 km away from the Arabian Sea. The world-famous Gir National park is also adjacent to the village. Visitors who come in should prepare themselves mentally for the heat and humidity way in advance.

The village by default does not have proper and safe lodging facilities. The places which are worth trying for a stay are Shikhar Palace Hotel (Tariff – Rs. 500), Vishala Hotel (Tariff – Rs. 1,000), Hotel Sapphire (Tariff – Rs. 800) and New Somnath Hotel (Tariff – Rs. 500).
The official language of Ankolvadi is Gujarati. Hindi is also widely spoken and understood.
The important festivals celebrated are Holi in March, Hanuman Jayanti and Dusshera in September-October and Diwali in November.
Places of Interest
The best places of interest in the region are in the neighbouring city of Junagadh. Places which are worth a visit are Uparkot, Jama Masjid, Junagadh Caves, the old part of the town, Rohidas Ashram and others. The Gir National Park, famous for its lions, is also a must-see.

The nearest airports are the Diu and Porbandar Airports at distances of 49 and 140 km respectively.
The Rajkot Junction Railway Station is the nearest railway station at a distance of 157 km. Smaller stations nearby are the Gir Hadmatiya Railway Station and the Prachi Road Junction Railway Station.
Various state transport buses as well as private buses ply in the region. Shree Hari travels is one of the private operators in the region. Online bus booking sites have made it possible for travellers to get their bus tickets with ease.
