Alwarthirunagari, a famous temple on the Tirunelveli-Tiruchendur road, is located on the banks of the Thamiraparani river. The temple is one among the nine temples (known as Nava Tirupathi) dedicated to lord Vishnu. It has thus evolved into a site of major Hindu pilgrimage.
