Situated on the banks of the river Rapti, Balrampur is a prosperous municipal board city in Uttar Pradesh. It is the district headquarters of Balrampur. Located nearby is Shravasti where Lord Gautam Buddha performed the spiritual transformation of the dacoit Angulimala. It is still ruled by one of the richest dynasties in our country, Maharaka Dharmendra Pratap Singh. There are many sugar mills in and around Balampur, contributing to its prosperity.
