Kodungoor

A small town in Kottayam District of Kerala State in India, Kodungoor is situated 25 km from Kottayam and 143 km from Thiruvananthapuram. Legend tells that a Devi came here following a Kartha, a firm devotee of Devi. After resting a while when Kartha tried to lift his umbrella, he couldn't lift because of the divine presence. And thus a temple was built for the ‘Devi' and the place came to known as ‘Kudathangiya oor’ which later brevetted as Kodungoor.
