Barnala is a city in the Barnala district of Punjab. It is located 75 km from Ludhiana, in the heart of the state. Barnala is situated on the Bathinda-Chandigarh national highway. It was earlier known as Anahadgarh. The region of Vaaran was being frequently hit by storms, and hence was renamed to its present day title of Barnala, meaning a land of too many storms. The city is known as the textile city, and has many textile bazaars.
