About Beed


Beed is a city in the western Indian state of Maharashtra. It is a part of the district by the same name. It is speculated that the city was founded by the Yadava rulers of Devagiri who ruled the region from 1173-1317. Later, it became a part of the Hyderabadi Nizams – the Asaf Jahis. After Hyderabad’s annexation, Beed was made to be a part of Maharashtra on May 1, 1960 as the city had a Marathi majority.

Places to Stay
Beed as a city has a few good lodging facilities. Not all are very budget-friendly, however. Two of the most affordable hotels which are worth trying out in the city are Anvita Hotel (Tariff – Rs. 800) and Hotel Sagar (Tariff – Rs. 1,500).

The official language of the region is Marathi. Urdu and Hindi are also widely spoken and understood.

The important festivals of the area are Holi in March, Ganesh Chathurthi in August-September, Diwali in October-November, the fasting month of Ramadan and the two Eid(s).

Places of Interest
Beed has an endless list of tourist attractions from Maratha to Mughal structures. Some of the places which are worth a visit are Kankaleshwar Temple, Jama Masjid, Shahinshah Wali tomb, Mansur Shah tomb, Khazana Well (6 km south of the city), Khandoba Temple among others.

Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport in Mumbai is the nearest airport at a distance of 387 km.

The nearest railway station is the Aurangabad Railway Station at a distance of 129 km.
