Burhanpur is a medium-sized city in the central Indian state of Madhya Pradesh. It is the headquarters of the Burhanpur district. The city is located along the northern banks of the Tapti river. The state capital of Bhopal is located at a distance of 340 km. The city has a nice mix of religious groups. As an ethnic group, Marathis form a sizeable part of the population due to its proximity to Maharashtra.
