Bhramvar, also known as ‘Brahmavar’, ‘Brahmavara’ or as ‘Ajapura’, is a road town located on NH 66, 13 km north of Udupi in the Udupi district of Karnataka. This ancient place is culturally very active being close to Barkur, which was initially the capital of Tulunadu or Land of the Tuluites or Konkanis. It is mainly inhabited by Hindus and the common language of the place is still Tulu. However Muslims and Christians have come to form a small but significant community in the overall population.
