Bodh Gaya

Bodh Gaya is a town in the Indian state of Bihar. It is an internationally famous town known for its Buddhist temples. In fact, this is the place where the founder of Buddhism, Gautama Buddha, is said to have attained enlightenment. The place is almost exclusively famous for its Buddhist temples and structures. The most important among them is the Mahabodhi Temple (the complex within which Buddha achieved enlightenment). Apart from this, many temples and monasteries run by organisations from Tibet, the Far East and South-east Asian countries exist in the town.

Gaya Junction Railway Station is a major railway station located within the town itself.

The nearest airport to Gaya is the Gaya International Airport, which is located 7 kms away. Domestic flights are available from Varanasi, New Delhi and Kolkata. Regular international flights run from Myanmar, Bhutan, and Nepal, and flights are available from Sri Lanka as well as Thailand depending upon the season.

Rail:

Gaya is well connected with many major cities in India. The Mahabodhi Express runs from Delhi daily.
