About Calicut

Calicut

Calicut which is also known as  Kozhikode is the third largest city that belongs to the state of  Kerala. It is situated on the Malabar Coast. The city is also being referred as "City of Sculptures" for there are many ancient architectural sculptures seen in different parts of this city.  According to history, this city was once a powerful trading centre for Arabs, Chinese and East African traders during the 12 century. Thamarrassary is a town in the Kozhikode district, located in the South Indian state of Kerala. The nearest major urban agglomeration is the city of Kozhikode, located at a distance of 30 km south-west. The cultural hub of Malappuram is also close-by and lies 56 km to the south of the town. One can stop by in the town while en route to the picturesque Malabar Wildlife Sanctuary from Malappuram or Kozhikode. The area is known for its picturesque hilly terrain.
