Chala is a small town in the Kannur District in Kerala. It is situated about 8 km away from Kannur Town and Payyannur(16 km) is the nearest town which has a railway station. Chala is centrally located as it lies on Kannu-Tellichery National Highway. As with most places in the state of Kerala, Chala has a high literacy rate of 83%. The population of Chala is about 16000, according to the 2001 Census.

The Arimala Wildlife Sanctuary which has its entrance at Iritty (63 km) is 55 km of unadulterated forest life. Kannur Town (8km) has a number of beaches that are popular with tourists. Chala also has a number of small temples for those who are interested.
