Chanderi is a historical town in the Ashok Nagar district of Madhya Pradesh. It is situated at about 50 km from Ashoknagar and 215 km from Bhopal. The name Chanderi has been mentioned in the epic tale Mahabharata. It is also an important centre for Jain culture. There are many ancient monuments, forests and lakes in this town. Chanderi is well known in the domestic market for brocades and muslin, and a type of hand-woven saree called Chanderi saree.
