Virudhunagar

Known to be the district of Tamil Nadu, Virudhunagar was also called Virudhupatti in the beginning of 20th century. This town was the commercial centre during the years of British rule in India. Did you know?
Virudhnagar is derived from the Tamil word “Virudhu”, which literally means banner. It is said that a warrior who had captured many banners from opponents after defeating them once came to the town and challenged the inhabitants for a fight, which was accepted by a local. He fought the warrior, killed him and seized all the banners. Henceforth, the town came to be known as Virudhunagar.
