Gumla is a town in the Gumla district of Jharkhand. It is located in the southern part of the Chota Nagpur Plateau. It is located about 100 km from Ranchi. Three rivers, South Koyel, North Koyel and Shankh, flow through this town. The name Gumla has been derived from two words, “Gau” meaning cattle and “Mela” meaning fair. People from differentplaces used to come to this town to buy and sell cows and bullocks for agricultural purposes.
