Gunga is a small village in the western Indian state of Rajasthan. The village is a part of the Barmer district and lies at a distance of 63 km north of the district headquarters, Barmer. The international border with Pakistan is not too far away either (just 151 km west of Gunga) and is located about three-and-half hours’ drive away.
Places to Stay
Being a village, naturally there are no places to put up for the night. One is forced to venture into Barmer for lodging. There are a couple of good budget hotels in the city. Some of the options which are worth a try are Hotel Krishna (Tariff – Rs. 800), KK Hotel (Tariff – Rs. 500), Shivam Palace Hotel (Tariff – Rs. 800), Kailash Sarovar Hotel (Tariff – Rs. 1,000).
The official language of the area is Hindi.
The important festivals celebrated are Holi in March, Hanuman Jayanti and Dusshera in September-October and Diwali in November.
Places of Interest
The village as a whole may not have anything interesting to offer. A ride to the Pakistan border with a prior permission from relevant authorities may prove to be little exciting. As the drive is expected to stretch up to three to four hours, one is advised to carry lots of fluids. A visit to Barmer and exploring the Juna remains on the west as well as the Jain remains on the south is also worth it.
How to Get There
The nearest airport is the Jodhpur Airport at a distance of 227 km.
Barmer Railway Station is the nearest major railway station at a distance of 61 km.
Being very close to the sensitive international border, it is mostly state transport buses which cater to the needs of passengers in the region. Buses to the village are available from Barmer. Before going on a holiday, check out various travel portals and get cheap bus tickets.
