About Hosanagara


Hosanagara, known for its dense forest, is a town in the Shimoga district of Karnataka. Hosanagara meaning “new town”, played host to the World Cattle Conference in April 2007. It is home to some of the finest tourist destinations like the Ramachandrapura Mutt and Kodachadri Hills, which is 4,411 feet above sea level.

The town plays host to innumerable places of interests. Humcha, a historic Jain temple, is located about 22 km away. Other places of repute near the city include Nagara (17 km), Jog Falls (75 km), Linganamakki Dam (6 km from Jog Falls), Shimoga (65 km), Kunchikal Falls (40 km) and Kollur (61 km).

How to Get There

The nearest airport is at Mangalore International Airport, which is about 180 km from Hosanagara. Hubli airport is another airport close to the city, which is 160 km away.

Mangalore Central is the closest railway station at 14.1 km. Shimoga railway station is another railhead close to the city at 67 km.
