A taluk in the northern district of Bagalkot in Karnataka, Hunagunda or Hungund is an agricultural town. Hunagunda and neighbouring Ilkal have some of the most famous educational institutions in the region. The town is well-known in the neighbouring region as the place where social reformist Basavanna had attained moksha (salvation). A number of schools in the town where established during the British rule.
