Kalpi is a city situated on the banks of River Yamuna, in the north Indian state of Uttar Pradesh. It belongs to the Jalaun District. The city is believed to be founded at the close of the 4th century by King Vasudeva and is said to have been named Kalpriyanagari then. From the 12th century onwards it constantly kept changing hands from Mohammed Ghori to Akbar, to the Marathas, and finally to the British. Today, Kalpi trades heavily in cotton, ghee and grains. Handmade paper is also produced here in plenty.
