Kartarpur is a town in the Anandpur Sahib Tehsil in the Ropar district of Punjab. It is located close to the city of Jalandhar. Kartarpur was established by Guru Arjan Dev, the fifth Guru of Sikhism. It is located at the foothills of the Shivalik Ranges of the Himalayas. It is known for its extreme summers and winters along with unpredictable rainfall during the monsoon season. The name means ‘The city of God.’
