Perched at a height of 870 m above sea-level, Koraput is a town in the state of Odisha. The town has a rich history associated with it. Today, this area happens to be largely inhabited by native tribal communities. Koraput is also home to the largest mountain of Odisha called Deomali. The city also serves as a gateway to numerous hill stations that are nearby such as Machkund, Onukadelli, Jalaput and Chindri.

The most important language spoken in Koraput is Oriya. Alternately, Telugu and Hindi are spoken here as well.
Dongar Festival in the month of November is celebrated with tremendous fervour in this region.

The Sabara Srikhetra Jagannath Temple (in Koraput), the Tribal Museum (in Koraput),the Matsya Tirtha and Jolaput ( 77km from Koraput) are popular tourist destinations.

The nearest major airport from Koraput is at Vishakhapatnam.
Koraput has a railway station of its own that has trains that connect to important cities such as Bhubaneshwar, Calicut, Jeypore and Vishakhapatnam (among others.)
