About Manakala


Situated in the state of Kerala, Manakala is a seaside village and is a part of the Pathanamthitta district. The name Manakala is derived from two Malayalam words, ‘Manal’ meaning sand and ‘Kaala’ which translates to land or place. In literal translation, Manakala refers to a place which is covered in sand. It is also the hometown of prominent Indian film director Adoor Gopalakrishnan.

Manakala does not have a railway station and the nearest one is located in the town of Adoor (4 km).
