Mirzapur is situated in the state of Uttar Pradesh and serves as headquarters for the Mirzapur district. The city is famous for its brassware and carpet industries. Prehistoric caves and artefacts from the Belan River Valley were found here. Once covered by a dense forest, it is now a trading centre for cotton and silk.
