A historical town, Nalgonda, has traces of Paleolithic and Neolithic age stones. This town was earlier called as Nilagiri. The name Nalgonda comes from Nalla meaning (black) and Konda (hill). This is a major town in Andhra Pradesh and one of the oldest places with the Ashoka Pillar. Nalgonda is also home to the emerald Someswara Temple, Chaya Someswara Temple and Venkateswara temple. There is a major bypass to this town along the National Highway 9.
