A town and a municipality situated in the central Travancore region of Kerala, Pathanamthitta is known as the 'Pilgrim Capital of Kerala'. The town lies on the road route to the pilgrim town of Sabarimala (65kms away). Pathanamthitta is also known for being historically important.
