Phagwara is a municipal corporation in Punjab and comes under Kapurthala District. It was earlier under Jalandhar district. It lies on the Delhi-Amritsar National Highway, and is therefore very well connected. It is located between two big cities, Ludhiana and Jalandhar. It was originally developed as a market town by the Mughal emperor Shah Jahan. The people of Phagwara are mainly farmers. There are many agriculture based industries in this town as well.
