Ranipet, commonly known as Ranipettai, is located near Vellore in Tamil Nadu. This southern Indian town is about 20km away from Vellore fort and 100 km away from Chennai city. The town is said to have been built in the year 1771 by Nawab Sadut Ulla Khan in honour of the widow of King Desingh. She was honoured as she gave up her life on her husband’s funeral pyre. Ranipet literally means ‘the land of the queen.
