Sankagiri is a town in the Salem district state of Tamil Nadu. With a population of more than 150000 people its literacy rate of 68% is above the national average. It is a historical centre owing its significance to the Sankagiri fort. Agriculture was the basis of its economy for a long time until recently where in truck transport, cement industries and mills are now speedily taking over.
