Sindri is a town in the Dhanbad district of the state of Jharkhand. It is an industrial town. It is known for its coal, power and steel projects. It earlier housed the factory of the Fertilizer Corporation of India (FCI). The name Sindri is derived from the Hindi word ‘Sindoor’ which means vermillion. The name is given due to the vermillion colored soil which is found in these areas.
