Siwan is a small town and an important district in the state of Bihar. Siwan was known after Ali Bux as Aliganj Sawan. In pre-Independence India, Siwan was the northern border town in India sharing its borders with Nepal. Hence the name Siwan, which means border in Bhojpuri.
