Thiruvalla is the largest town in the Pathanamthitta district of Kerala. Well known as the temple town, it is renowned for its religious monuments, numerous temples and history. It also is the key to the gate of Sabarimala. Numerous pilgrims visit Thiruvalla during the festive season and the small town beams with the festive mood and festivals.

The five-day youth festival of Mahatma Gandhi University Union, named as Sargodayam-2012’, hosted in Thiruvalla from February 29 to March 4 which consists of local music , dance, singing and all kind of cultural activities. Thiruvalla hosts the Onam festival every year consisting of grand elephants and a great meal.
The official language of Thiruvalla is malayalam. English is also spoken to some extent.

Thiruvalla has a large percentage of Christian population and as a result there are various famous and most visited churches to visit. There are various places to see in Thiruvalla including theShri Vallabha Maha Kshetram or the Thiruvalla temple, the famous Palikkara Church, Niranam church and Parumala Church. It is also famous for the Kaviyoor Hanuman temple and Mahadev temple.

The nearest airport is the Kochi airport which is around 86 kms away from the city of thiruvalla.
Trains from Thiruvall station are well connected to southern India and Western India. There are regular trains to, Kollam, Thiruvananthapuram Ernakulam and Palakkad. The train fares are really cheap priced at 100-500, and thus needs to be booked in advance.
Bus is the most important means of transport and available to and from every location in and outside Kerala.
