One of the oldest cities in Kottayam district of Kerala, Vaikom is situated very close to Cochin (31 km). The western side of the city is surrounded by the Vembanad Lake. This city is known for its Vaikom Shiva Temple, which is called the Thekkan Kashi (Kashi of the South).
