About Vasai

Vasai

Vasai, now a part of the Vasai-Virar city, is situated in the state of Maharashtra. It was historically called ‘Bassein’ and it was here that the Portugese built a fort to display their naval strength. It was in the 18th century that the Maratha army took over the Vasai Fort, which was later conquered by the British. Today, Vasai has risen up to be an industrial hub comprising of pharmaceutical and engineering units. Vasai is well connected with most of the places in Maharashtra and is frequented by tourists who wish to see the famous Fort.

The easiest way to reach Vasai is through the Mumbai local trains. Board a Virar bound train from Dadar or Andheri. Once you reach Virar station, take a bus or hire an auto-rickshaw to the place you want to go in Virar.
