Alathur

The small town of Alathur lies in the state of Kerala. This village is mainly dependent agriculture and majority of the population here are farmers.

PLACES OF TOURIST INTEREST:

The area called Mayiladumpara  has been declared a sanctuary because of the considerable population of peafowl.

On the occasion of the birthday of Goddess Pookulathi, the famous festival Kummatti is celebrated in Kunissery.

Mudappallur which is only 10 km from Alathur celebrates azhikulangara which is the famous festival there.

Padur’s famous festival is Padur Vela and is situated at only a distance of 8 kms from Alathur.

In Vanoor which is a place in Alathur there’s a big hill called the Veezhumala and according to ancient saying when Hanuman was carrying the hill a small part of it fell down and it formed Veezhumala.

The temple of Parakkattu Kayu is situated in the village of Kavassery, 4 km from Alathur.

Arangattu Parambu, a small village off Alathur has some remnants of an Old Shiva Temple.

There is a village in between Vanoor and Puthiyankam which also forms a part of Alathur.

HOW TO REACH THERE:

The town of Alathur is well connected by road to all the major places as National Highway 47 passes through it.  There are buses running from this town to all the major places.

There is no railway connectivity from this town to any place because of the presence of the mountainous terrain.
