Bhavani

Bhavani is a municipal area in Erode city of Tamil Nadu. It lies to the north of Erode city and is a peninsular island. It is the confluence of three rivers Kaveri, Bhavani and Akash Ganga.

Religious places

There are a number of temples in and around this place. The names of the temples which are worth mentioning are Fortified Temples at Erode Fort, Thindal Murugan Temple, Kongu Tirupati, Perumal malai and Lakkapuram. There are also some temples which are worth mentioning and often frequented by the visitors which are Natadreeswarar Temple, Bhavani-Sangameswarar Temple, Tiruchengode, Chennimalai, Sivagiri and Kodumudi.

A number of churches also beautify this place and are sacred to the Christians. CSI Brough Church and St. Mary’s Cathedral are the churches worth mentioning. Lourde Matha Forane Church and Carmel Church are also visited by tourists and devotees throughout the year.

Some of the Historical monuments are E.V.R Corporation Museum, Thandhai Periyar – Arignar Anna Memorial, Jain Temples and Sankagiri Fort.

For branded textiles and jewelry one can visit the RKV Road. Easwaram Kovil Street is a wholesale textile market and also Gandhiji Road is also a textile market.

Bhavani is famous for the turmeric market and hence thousands of traders come here for turmeric business. The textile here is also famous and hence there are a number of textile traders here doing textile business. Erode is one of the largest producers of coconut oil in India.

How to reach there:

Road:

There are well connected roads which connects Bhavani with different places of the state. There are highways connecting it to other states such as Karnataka, Kerala and Andhra Pradesh. Local buses running within the city and also inter-city buses connecting other cities are also there.

Railways:

Erode junction railway station is connected to almost all places in Southern India. The station is dubbed as the 3rd cleanest in India. The city is connected to major places like Chennai, Mumbai, Bangalore, etc.

Air:

The nearest Airports to Bhavani are the Coimbatore Airport (85 km) and Salem Airport (75 km).

Inland Water:

The rivers Cauvery and Bhavani serves as the only major source of water transport to nearby places.
