Chalakudy is a municipal town in Thrissur District of the southern state of Kerala. It is situated on the banks of Chalakudy River. It is the base camp for travellers to Athirappilly and Vazhachal Falls. It is located very close to the city of Kochi regarded as the commercial capital of Kerala and also located close to the cultural capital of Kerala, Thissur.

There are a number of scenic spots in this place. A number of waterfall and a dam are worth visiting for the tourists. The Chalakudy River has the highest number of fish variety in whole Kerala and it ranks second in India. Tourist visits this place often to experience the scenic spots surrounding the river. On the banks of the River Chalakudy there is the Divine Retreat Centre which is frequented by the Catholic Christian community of the place. A number of waterfalls make this place even more worth visiting for the tourists. The Athirappilly Water Falls and Vazhachal Falls are the two waterfalls which are visited by the tourists very often. The Athirappilly Falls is situated on the Chalakudy River and originates in the upper reaches of the Western Ghats. Many endangered and endemic species of flora and fauna are found in the forests of the Athirapilly-Vazhachal area. This area is the only place in the Western Ghats where four endangered Hornbill species are seen. The Vazhachal River is on the Chalakudy river and is36 km from the town of Chalakudy. Lush green surroundings beautify this place and this spot is a must visit for the tourists. The Solaiyar Dam is located 55 km from Chalakudy. It is a place worth visiting for its scenic beauty.

The nearest airport is Cochin International Airport. It is located at a distance of 22 KM from Chalakudy. All the major domestic and international flights are available here. Direct flights are available to Chennai, New Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore and Kolkata.
Railways:
It is well connected by trains to a number of places of India. There are two railway stations in Chalakudy, Divine Nagar Railway Station and Chalakudy Railway Station.
Roads:
There are well constructed highways connecting this place to a number of other place of south India. KSRTC is the main bus operator in this region.
