Chemperi is a small town on the banks of the Champeri river near the western ghats. It is located in the Kannur district of the state of Kerala. It is a town of picturesque hills and scenic spots distributed over the place.
The climate here is humid. The summer is harsh here from the months of March until the end of May. Then the monsoon comes which continues till the end of September. Then the North-east monsoon continues till the month of November. Winters in the month of December, January and February are pleasant.

Paithal Mala is a hill station near Chemperi. A number of beautiful hillocks and landscapes attracts a lot of tourists to this place all year round. It is located on the Kerala- Karnataka border. This place is ideal for trekking and adventure tourism. This town is located at an altitude of 1450 meters above sea level. Pottamplayu is the base camp and there is a cliff atop the cliff.
