Cherupuzha is a panchayath, or traditional village, in the Payyannur area of Kannur district in the state of Kerala.
Places of tourist interest:
St. Mary’s Forane Church is one of the oldest churches in Cherupuzha. This church belongs to the Archdiocese of Tellicherry and was established in 1951. This church was established for the Christians who migrated from South Kerala to Cherupuzha and the surrounding areas. This holy monument is a symbol of religious tolerance that this town have enjoyed over the years. People of all religion visits this place, and even on the occasion of the annual parish festival (perunnal) with the Catholics by decorating their buildings and contributing to the festival atmosphere.
The church is only a kilometre from the town of Cherupuzha and people always visit this place whenever they pass through this point. Kottathalachi Mount is a famous Christian pilgrim centre in north Kerala. It is at an altitude of around 2500 feet above the sea level.
Pulingome Makhaam is a famous pilgrim center for the muslims. It is located just 5 km from Cherupuzha and it has a history associated with it. Around 1300 years ago two religious preachers were buried here. Thousands of people belonging to different religion visit this place throughout the year.
Cherupuzha Ayyappa temple located in Cherupuzha town is a famous Hindu pilgrimage. This temple is known as the Sabarimala of North Malabar.
The Major attraction in Cherupuzha is a hanging bridge in Tejaswini River (also known as karyamkode puzha). This bridge connects both Kasaragod and Kannur districts.
How to get there:
Air:
The nearest airports are at Kozhikkode and Mangalore in Karnataka state. A new airport is proposed at Kannur. People can hire a taxi or a cab and travel to the airports.
Railways:
Trains run to all the major places of south India. There are trains at regular intervals that take passengers to Cherupuzha and all the major places.
Roads:
It is well connected by roads to all the major places in South India. There is bus service also from this town to a number of important places.
