 Guruvayur is a municipal town in Thrissur District of Kerela state in India. Guruvayur is called as the Bhooloka Vaikuntam or Dwarka of the South; it houses the famous Guruvayur Shree Krishna Temple. This temple is the fourth biggest temple in India in terms of the number of devotees per day. Besides pilgrims and tourists, brides and grooms with hundred of guests flock here daily to get their weddings solemnized.
Ekadasi is the 11th day of every lunar fortnight, is very auspicious to the Hindus. Chembai Sangeetholsavam is an annual Carnatic music festival held in Guruvayur by thr Guruvayur Devaswom Board at Thiruvaiyum.
The famous Pooram Festival (April/May) is celebrated at the Vaddakkunnath Temple. There are light long fireworks and a magnificent elephant procession. Shivarathri is also celebrated with great fanfare. During onam, the harvest festival (August/September), the entire state wears a festive look.
