Karaikudi is a city in Sivaganga District in the state of Tamil Nadu. Karaikudi is the biggest city in the Chettinad Region and largest city in Sivaganga district. The predominance of the “Nattu Kottai Chettiars” who have from there ventured far and wide to set up their businesses even at the turn of the 20th century and so known as capital of Chettinad.
Karaikudi is home of two famous for Institutions, Alagappa University and CECRI. The city is also famous for its art and architectural houses built during the early 1900’s. The Thennar River flows through South Karaikudi.
