Katra is a small hill town located in the mountains in the Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir. It is the abode of the Vaishno Devi temple due to which it is one of the important pilgrimage centres of the state. Several ardent devotees of the goddess flock to this beautiful town to offer prayers and to do away with their sins. This place is known for its serenity and tranquility.
PLACES OF TOURIST INTEREST:
Vaishno Devi Shrine Katra: The Vaishno Devi shrine is the most important pilgrim centres of the place. The innumerable devotees of the goddess throng this place at all times of the year to seek her blessings. The Hindus worship the Goddess in three forms, Maha Saraswati, Mahalakshmi and Maha Kali.
Baba Dhansar Katra: This place is situated about 10km from Katri and is visited by people from different places due to the picturesque locations, the cascading waterfall, and the lush greenery. This is a perfect place to spend time with ones friends and family. During Shivratri a huge fair is held in this place.
Bawey Wali Mata Katra: This is another frequently visited temple of the region. This temple that was constructed by Raja hu Lochan is housed inside the Bahu Fort and allures many pilgrims to this place.
Shivkhori Katra: This holy cave that is in the shape of Lord Shiva’s damroo houses a 4feet high Shiva- lingam. The devotees of Lord Shiva visit this place to witness the mesmerizing site of the milky water from the Ganges falling on the Shiva-Lingam.
Jahan Kosha Katra: This magnificent mosque that dates back to the 17th century is said to have the imprints of the Prophet Hazrat Mohammad. There is enormous cannon called the Jahan Kosha from where the mosque has derived its name.
Dera Baba Banda Katra: This gurudwara is one of the frequently visited pilgrim centres of the Hindus and Sikhs alike. This place lies about 30km from Katra lies on the banks of the Chenab River is believed to have been built by Baba Bairaagi.

Shopping is a delightful experience and Katra has innumerable places to shop from. It is a place worth visiting especially for the shopaholics. Tourists flock in large number in this place to buy junk jewellery, small souvenir items, dry fruits, jackets. There are many malls and shopping complexes where people can get things of their choice at reasonable prices. Tourists from different places come here to this small city and shop taking home good experiences. There are many shops from where one can purchase all the spiritual objects from the cultures of the Kashmir valley. One can also splurge in the lip-smacking Kashmiri garlic and walnut. The gemstones and pendants of the region is very popular.
