Kodaikanal is a city in the hills of the taluk division of the Dindigul district in the state of Tamil Nadu, India. Its name in the Tamil language means âThe Gift of the Forestâ. Kodaikanal is referred as the âPrincess of Hill Stationsâ and has a long history as a retreat and popular tourist destinations.
The Kodaikanal sits on a plateau above the southern escarpment of the upper Palni Hills at 2133 m, between the Parappar and Gundar Valleys. The hills town is renowned for its educational institutions of international repute.
North of the town is Pallangi and Vilpatti, to the East is Palni, to the south is Cumbum valley and to the West leads to Manjampatti Valley, Indira Gandhi National Park, The Annamalai Hills and the main body of the western Ghats.
The pride of Kodaikanal is the âKurunji-flowerâ, which blossoms once in 12 years. The hill plantain plums, Pears, Chile pepper, Carrots, Cauliflower, Cabbage, Garlic and onions are known for their freshness and taste. Kodaikanal is a Honeymoonersâ Heaven. Boat Races and Flower shows are summer festival here.
