Kovilpatti is a town municipality in Thoothukudi district in Tamil Nadu, India. It is the second largest town in Thoothukudi district. It was the largest Taluk in terms if revenue villages in India but recently it were split into Ettyaputram and Kovilpatti taluks.
Kovilpatti is a fast growing town with prominent commercial and industrial activity, including a large number of match factories, textile mills and factories manufacturing crackers. Kovilpatti is often called as “Matchless City of Matches”.
Kovilpatti has a small hill to its south east known as Swarna Kathiresa Malai. Because of its height (658 m), the town is airy. Kovilpatti is also famous for Hockey. Kovilpatti is the gate way entrance for Tirunveli and Tuticorin district from north and west.
Kovilpatti is situated on the north-western of the Chidambaranar District. It is located 90 km south of Madurai city, 60 km north of Tirunelveli and 50 km north-west of Tuiticorin.
