Cultural programmes include the dance festival called the Mayura Natyanjali which is performed on the day of shivratri.

Nagapattinam is the nearest seaport here. The SH-23 and SH-64 are the two highways in the state here. Regular busses ply over to the cities of south India such as Bangalore, Thirupathi and Thiruvananthapuram.
Mayavaram is an important railway junction .There is regular trains to Chennai, Karaikudi and Tiruchirappalli. [63][64] The Rameshwaram Express and the Mysore-Mayiladuthurai are the two express running daily.
