Nagpur is a city in the state of Maharashtra, the largest city in the central India and it is the 13th largest urban conglomeration in India. Nagpur is also a major commercial and political center of the Vidarbha region. Nagpur lies precisely at the center of the country with the Zero Mile Marker indicating geographical center of India.
Nagpur literally means the abode of serpent God Nag and is also known as Orange City with its famous variety of oranges. Nagpur is the trade center for the high quality delicious oranges grown in the city and its outskirts. The present day was founded by Bhakt Buland, an erstwhile prince of the region in 18th century.
Nagpur is famous for education centre too. Present Nagpur thrives with industrial developments. Agriculture is the traditional way of living in Nagpur. The Nag River, a tributary of the Kanhan River, flows in a serpentine path and therefore named “Nag”. Nagpur is an important city for the Indian armed forces. Chathurthi (September) and Durga Pooja (October) are the attractive festival in Nagpur.
