Ooty

Online Bus Booking OotyOoty is the Queen of Hill Stations and the capital of Niligris district in Tamil Nadu, India. Ooty is also known as Ootacamund. Niligris means Blue Mountains. Ooty is also a land of picturesque picnic spots. It is situated at an altitude of 2240m above the sea level.

The landscape is marked by rolling hills covered with dense vegetation, smaller hills and plateaus covered with tea gardens, and eucalyptus trees. Many portions of the hills are preserved as natural reserve forests. Several areas are preserved like that of sanctuary so as to conserve the beauty of the nature and avoid extinction of the life on earth.

Ooty is used to be popular summer weekend gateway for the Britishers during the colonial days. An added attraction is the mountain train journey on a ratchet and pinion track which commences from Kallar and wends its way through many hair-raising curves, fearful tunnels and chugs along beside deep ravines full of verdant vegetation, gurgling streams and tea gardens.

Thaiposam (Feb), Bookkapuram Mariamman annual festival (Feb), Ooty Mariamman festival (Apr), Coonoor Mariamman temple festival (Apr), Boat races & Boat Pageantry (May), Flower Show (May) and Fruit Show (May) are the important festivals in Ooty.
