Puducherrry, formerly known as Pondicherry, is a Union Territory of India. Puducherry lies on the Coromandel Coast, located on India’s southeastern coastline. Once a French Colony, Puducherry has a rich past. The spiritual attraction mixes with the undulating waters on the Bay of Bengal and rich hertage to make Puducherry an enchanting destination.
French Colony consisting of four non-contiguous regions, and named after the largest region, Pondicherry, Karaikkal, Mahe, Yanam were the four non-contigous enclaves off Puducherry. It is also considered an educational hub of southern India.
Puducherry is little away from Chennai on the east coast, and east coast is having continuous stretch of mangroves. The main river in Puducherry is the Gingee (Sankarabarani river), believed originate from Gingee.
Pongal, Bastille Day, Masimagam, Sri Aurbindo’s birth Anniversary, Food festival, Deepawali, Christmas and International Yoga Festival are some important festivals in Puducherry.
