In the South Indian state of Tamil Nadu there is a small municipal town called Ramnad also referred to as Ramanathapuram. It forms the administrative headquarters of the district. Ramnad is known for its diverse culture, customs and religion. This tranquil town has several places worth visiting.
PLACES WORTH VISITING:
Kurusadi Island: This Island which lies about 20 km from Ramnad lies on the Western side of the Pamban Bridge. It is the favourite tourist destinations. The enchanting beauty of the island with its coral reefs, dolphins and other marine animals not only draws the attention of the tourists but also of the marine biologist, the nature lovers and the scholars. One can spend hours at this island observing nature at its best.
Thiruppullani: This temple also known as Dharbasayanam has Lord Adi Jaganathaperumal as its presiding deity. This temple is visited by several ardent devotees of Lord Vishnu who offer prayers in the hope of doing away with their sins.
Uthirakosamangai: This ancient Shiva temple is visited by flocks of Hindu pilgrims at all times of the year. Here the deity has been carved of emerald and several local festivals are held here especially during the month of December.
Dhanushkodi: This place houses a fine beach where people can go and spend some quiet time with their friends and family. The tranquil environment makes this place a favourite place for the tourist.
Erwadi: This place houses the tomb of Sultan Ibrahim Syed Aulia. Several pilgrims from foreign countries come here to offer prayers during the month of February and March
Devi Patinam: The localites are of the belief that the presiding deity of the temple had killed the demon Mahishasura at this very spot where the temple has been built. Hence people visit this temple regularly.
SHOPPING: Ramnad is a shopping paradise and the ideal destination to purchase many of exquisite showpieces made of seashells and beads for the friends and family. Tourists flock in large number in this place to buy gifts like the Khadi crafts for their near and dear ones. There are many malls and shopping complexes where people can get the things of their choice and desire. There are numerous shops near the temples that sell Rameswaram Silk Sarees that attracts a lot of female customers.
