Sankari also known as Sankagiri is a panchayat town located in the Salem district of the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. It is believed that Tippu Sultan the then ruling king had made a way to Mysore via Sankari. This place is well known for its forts especially the one that was built by Tipu Sultan which is believed to have prohibited the Britishers from entering Coimbatore. This place with its scenic beauty and innumerable forts is visited by tourists at all times of the year.

Tourists should visit the Sankagiri Fort if they travel to Sankari. This fort that was established in the 15th century has several walls that has been built around the hills. One often gets captivated by the structures of the building that has been so meticulously constructed. Another place worth visiting is the fort of Tipu Sultan. It is believed that this fort had helped Tipu Sultan fight against the Britishers by prohibiting them from entering Coimbatore. The temple of Lord Shiva has several ardent devotees visiting it at all times of the year. People offer prayers and believe that they can get rid of their sins of they visit this temple. The Government Museum houses several valuable collections of sculptures and terracotta’s. Hence this place is thronged by people wishing to have a glance at such rare items. The socialites interested in donation and wanting the upliftment of the society often visit the London Missionary Society which is one of the main missionary centres of the region. The Saleem Steel Plant has many tourists visiting it to witness manufacture of steel products. This also happens to be one of the places where people like to visit. Juma Masjid of Sankari is another of the favourite tourist destinations. This mosque that was built by the then ruling king, Tipu sultan allures many visitors owning to its fine architecture.

One can splurge in various kinds of items found in the different shops of the place. It is a place where people not only indulge in window-shopping but also end up buying lots of goodies. HOW TO REACH THERE: Being well-connected by road, rail and air, one wishing to visit Sankari can reach the place without hassle. As the National Highway NH47 passes through Sankari there are several buses that one can avail. One wishing to travel by train can board the passenger trains from Sankari Railway station.
