According to the Indian history, Tanuku was famous as the capital city of famous Tarakapuri region under the Tarakasura kingdom. As per the Indian Mythology, Tarakasura was regarded as the Asura or the Demon who rules the region for many years. Thus the region was later named as the Tarakapura and then again as Tanuku. The Tanuku town shares a great part of history as well as Indian Mythology and thereby this entire place including many villages was named after many historical events.
It is also believed that the Tanuku town also witnessed the Lord Kumaraswamy avatar, whereas it includes a place called Illindra Parru where people have witnessed Hindu Mythology God Indra’s presence.
